A Brief Moment of Silence

At about 8:40 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 a small, regional jet, American Eagle Flight No. 5324 and a Black Hawk helicopter collided in midair over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The plane was carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members. The helicopter carried 3 soldiers on a training mission. All 67 people died.

Shortly after 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 30, 2025, President Trump appeared on TV to offer a brief moment of silence and condolences.

Had the President stopped there, he would have been lauded by supporters and detractors alike. For at least a day or two, he would have brought us together …

… BUT, this is President Donald John Trump. He couldn’t help himself. He continued with over half an hour of recrimination and speculation. He blamed former President Obama, former President Biden, and former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for the crash. He spouted unsupported and often nonsensical descriptions of how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in the FAA have created incompetence among air traffic controllers.

Once again, President Trump demonstrated his belief that anything, no matter how horrendous, is an opportunity to inflate himself at somebody else’s expense. Empathy and sympathy are signs of weakness. Any portrayal of them is just an act; a mask to fool the masses. Too bad he can’t maintain his cover for more than a few minutes. His low self-esteem always breaks through showing what a small and pitiful person he is.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I might wonder whether this was an “inside job”. After all, this senseless loss of life has driven the President’s “funding freeze” fiasco out of the news … at least temporarily … and dampened the focus on the Senate committees questioning three of his most unqualified cabinet nominees. He has followers who would have no compunction about tampering with the helicopter, the jet, or both. Perhaps, they discovered a way to interfere with communications between one of the vehicles and the tower. What are 67 lives when you’re a patriot at war?

I might wonder about such things … if I were a conspiracy theorist … but, I’m not. I think the crash was a terrible accident resulting from any number of possible adverse conditions. I think President Trump’s use of such a tragedy for political ends is beneath contempt.

What do you think?

  1. My P and I find the 🤡 cringe worthy fascinating, it is his acolytes that leave us incredulous.😉 I did enjoy both posts that I have read so far. But all a like from me means coming from me is that I read it. An affirmation not necessarily an endorsement.😘✌️💕
